Consider using information blueprinting

Information blueprinting is primarily a way to format your writing so it is clear, easy to follow, and useful for reference. It uses white space, indentations, rules, numbering, and other visual devices to map the information on the page.

Consider using information blueprinting when you want the message and its parts to be very explicit. Follow this procedure to use information blueprinting:

  • Divide the message into sections and sub-sections.
  • Mark the sections and sub-sections with headings.
  • Use indentations to set off text from headings.
  • Insert rules to separate sections.
  • Use white space before sections to separate them.
  • Use tables with borders for information.
  • Use tables with borders for procedures.
